The exhibition organised by Liverpool BookArts at LJMU Mount Pleasant Campus Library, Aquinas Building, Maryland Street, Liverpool included artists’ books from the LJMU collection and from a selection of thirty contemporary artists, including my work.

My letterpress printed ‘pocket pamphlets’ are handcrafted in small editions from salvaged materials, re-purposed packaging, discarded books, old maps, handmade and found papers. Each series, inspired by dissenting and radical figures, artists and writers, takes a particular theme and works with key quotations and short extracts from texts. ‘Silent Spring’ (2024, edition of 15) features quotes from Rachel Carson’s pioneering ecological book from 1962 and was included in the exhibition.
As part of the exhibition, for Book Arts Insight Day on 19th February at the library, I also ran a two-hour drop-in pamphlet-making workshop. Generally, in these workshops, I have invited participants to work around a theme of thinking what are they ‘for’ or ‘against’? I demonstrate how to make a small folded pamphlet/book from one A4 sheet of paper, using a slogan or a few words and decorating it with printed letters and items, letterpress, drawings or collage/cutups from old magazines. About 20 people attended and we all had fun! Here are some images and videos…
